Behind the Scenes at New York Fashion Week

Earlier this month, I had the honour of working backstage at New York Fashion Week (NYFW), one of the most prestigious events on the global fashion calendar. It was an incredible experience that brought together some of the world’s leading designers, models, and creatives – and I am proud to have contributed to the artistry that unfolded on the runway.
The Energy of Fashion Week
NYFW is an environment like no other. Backstage is fast-paced and meticulously orchestrated – a space where creativity and precision come together under immense time pressure. Models rotate through hair, makeup, and styling in a matter of minutes, while each team ensures the designer’s vision is executed flawlessly.
My Role Backstage
As part of the professional makeup team, my work spanned across multiple shows, creating looks that ranged from understated, natural beauty to bold, editorial statements. Every collection demanded something unique, and it was our role as artists to bring those visions to life with technical expertise and creativity.
The days were long – beginning before sunrise and often stretching well past midnight – but the energy was electric. The collaborative spirit backstage was a reminder that fashion is not just about the clothes, but about the collective artistry that makes a show possible.
Key Takeaways
* Precision under pressure – Backstage artistry requires speed, adaptability, and flawless execution.
* Collaboration at scale – Makeup artists, hairstylists, designers, and stylists work in perfect harmony to deliver a seamless presentation.
* Creativity with purpose – Each look told a story, reflecting the designer’s vision while showcasing makeup as a true art form.
Bringing the Experience Home
Being part of NYFW was both inspiring and career-defining. At YFL Studio, I am committed to bringing this same standard of artistry, professionalism, and creativity into every service – from bridal and special events to private lessons.
Working on an international stage has reaffirmed my passion for makeup as not just a beauty service, but as a medium of self-expression and empowerment. It’s an experience that will continue to influence and elevate the work we do here at the studio.
